CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Piedmont Natural Gas Foundation today announced a $100K grant to YWCA Central Carolinas, a gift that will help the nonprofit preserve its 51-year-old campus with renovations to its pool, locker rooms and gymnasium roof.

Changes will be both cosmetic and safety-related, and will include better ventilation, lighting and a re-grouted and chemically cleaned pool.

The organization relies on its fitness center for operating revenue and as a way to connect with potential YWCA supporters. The YWCA anticipates the updated amenities will attract 250 new members within a two-year period after the renovations are complete.

'Our fitness center is not only helping Charlotte become healthier, it's acting as a portal of entry for the YWCA's mission,' said Kirsten Sikkelee, CEO of the YWCA Central Carolinas. 'We are building a more understanding community by bringing together people of different ages, races, genders and economic classes, and finding new supporters is an important part of sustaining the YWCA for future generations.'

Piedmont Natural Gas, a subsidiary of Duke Energy, has a strong partnership with the YWCA, previously supporting the organization with energy efficiency audits, solar panel installation, employee volunteer efforts and financial support for the organization's Families Together and Women in Transition programs.

The two organizations also share a commitment to health and wellness, moving some employees to join the YWCA's fitness center and participate in the 'YDub Tri Club' triathlon training group.

'Piedmont Natural Gas has a history of partnering with nonprofits to build stronger, more vibrant communities,' said Timothy Greenhouse, managing director of community relations for Piedmont Natural Gas and president of the Piedmont Natural Gas Foundation. 'Piedmont proudly supports the YWCA because we believe in its mission, and we hope our gift inspires others to get involved so the YWCA can continue serving the Charlotte community for years to come.'

About the Piedmont Natural Gas Foundation
