First Point forms Technical Group to Advance Nickel
Exploration/Metallurgical Programs
======================================================================
First Point Minerals (TSX.V: FPX) has formed a Technical Group which
will consist of exploration geologists and metallurgists to assist and
advise the Company with its ongoing nickel exploration program focused
on nickel-iron alloys. A symbiotic relation of applied science between
explorers and metallurgists is being used to define both the best
target characteristics and the optimum recovery method for nickel from
such alloys. First Point Minerals is an industry leader in
identifying, understanding and exploring for this unique style of
nickel mineralization, which occurs in a specific geological
environment.
Dr. David Dixon and Dr. Adam Fischman, both at the University of
British Columbia (UBC), are the metallurgical members of First Point's
Technical Group.
Dr. Dixon is an Associate Professor in the Hydrometallurgy Group,
Department of Materials Engineering, UBC. His interests include
chemical and biological heap leaching of copper and gold ores and his
more recent significant research has defined a new atmospheric leaching
process for the rapid and efficient recovery of copper from primary
copper (chalcopyrite) concentrates. This has been one of the most
elusive and highly sought-after process goals in the history of
hydrometallurgy and culminated with the invention and patenting of the
Galvanox(tm) process.
Dr. Dixon has consulted to a wide range of mining companies including
Falconbridge, Barrick Gold, Placer Dome and Teck Cominco, and is
actively engaged in the research and application methods of metal
recovery. He is a co-holder of several patents related to mineral
extraction processes. Dr. Dixon holds a degree in Chemical Engineering
and a Ph.D. in Metallurgical Engineering, both from the University of
Nevada.
Dr. Fischmann is a post-doctoral research fellow in the Hydrometallurgy
Group, Department of Materials Engineering at UBC. Dr. Fischmann holds
a degree in chemistry and earth sciences and a Ph.D. in chemistry
related to gold extraction, both from Monash University, Melbourne,
Australia. Dr. Fischmann is coauthor of a number of papers related to
mineral extraction processes.
Drs. Dixon and Fischmann are investigating methods to extract and
recover nickel from nickel-iron alloys found in ultramafic rocks. The
samples will be provided from First Point Mineral's different nickel
properties in North America.
