NEWS RELEASE: LARGE SAMPLE EXTRACTED FROM THE LAPOINTE PIPE, ONTARIO
Tres-Or Resources Ltd. (“Tres-Or”) is pleased to announce successful recovery of a large sample of the Lapointe kimberlite pipe, located about 80 km southeast of Timmins, Ontario. Collection of the sample employed a large diameter RC rig contracted from North West Sequoia Drilling Ltd. which drilled the contractually specified one (1) hole in the central part of the Lapointe Kimberlite. This single hole TMN08-26 was designed to collect 50 tonnes or more of kimberlite for macro-diamond processing.
The vertical, large diameter RC drill hole used 20 inch casing set into competent overburden clays to 43 m depth in the central part of the Lapointe Kimberlite. Drilling proceeded ahead below the casing shoe using the flood RC method with a 17 ½ inch tricone bit to kimberlite. The top of the kimberlite was reached at approximately 81 m depth and the kimberlite extraction and collection continued to a vertical depth of 260.5 m. This single hole collected more than 50 tonnes of kimberlite.
The large tonnage sample has been shipped to a secure storage facility pending engagement of a DMS plant facility to process the kimberlite for macro-diamond content.
A vertical, 275 metre NQ-size guide hole was completed in November 2007 to prepare for the recommended 50-tonne macro-diamond test. The guide hole permitted recording and testing of the overburden materials and documented the nature of the kimberlite prior to the 50-tonne extraction test.
Caustic fusion tests of almost 4 tonnes of the Lapointe Kimberlite have returned results suggestive of a potentially low-grade but coarse size distribution. Such hints of a coarse distribution warrant further examination due to the large size of the body (+21 hectares) and low mining costs in the area. The primary goal of the 50 tonne test was to recover macro-diamonds to verify the coarse size distribution. Harrison Cookenboo, Ph.D., P.Geo., a Qualified Person by the standards of National Instrument 43-101 has reviewed and approved the contents of this news release. Dr. Cookenboo is responsible for the design and implementation of the field programs.
