ROCMEC TO TEST ITS THERMAL FRAGMENTATION MINING METHOD AT GOLDCORP?S PORCUPINE GOLD MINE
Vaudreuil-Dorion, Quebec, March 18th, 2010 ?Rocmec Mining inc. (the ? Company ?) (TSX-V: RMI) (FSE: D5O) is pleased to announce that a thermal fragmentation unit is set to be deployed to conduct test work at Goldcorp?s Porcupine Gold Mine.
Rocmec?s responsibilities include supplying a thermal fragmentation unit and qualified personnel to operate the unit.
The present agreement between Goldcorp?s Porcupine Gold Mine and the Company consists of introducing the thermal fragmentation mining method that will be compared to the long-hole mining method currently employed at the mine.
The thermal fragmentation mining method offers several advantages such as; less long-hole drilling required, significant reduction in mucking, backfilling, transporting and milling of waste rock, reduces the need of drilling and installing anchor support cables, rapidity in executing the excavation of targeted blocks.
Successful outcome of the test could constitute the basis of a new partnership. Rocmec is extremely pleased with the possibility of this new partnership as the property is located in Canada, thereby extending our positioning in North America. Rocmec?s primary objective is to introduce its Thermal Fragmentation mining method in mining operations and to spread its use within the mining industry. The strategy begins with an evaluation phase in order to demonstrate the effectiveness of the technology, which could lead to an adoption phase of the technology in which the Thermal Fragmentation mining method is incorporated into the mainstream production cycle. The Company's long term objective is to commercialize the technology on a global scale.
