Rainy River Intersects High Grade Gold Near Surface in Cap Zone |
VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Nov. 9, 2009) - Rainy River Resources Ltd. (TSX VENTURE:RR) -
Highlights:
- 10.5 metres grading 8.87 g/t gold intersected near surface in Cap Zone
- South Zone expanded - 200 metre strike continuity established
- Strong, wide intercepts obtained from ODM17 Zone including 40.5 metres grading 2.31 g/t gold
- Five diamond drills operating and reverse circulation overburden drill program commencing
Rainy River Resources Ltd. (TSX VENTURE:RR) is pleased to announce the results of the ten most recently completed diamond drill holes on its Richardson Township property in the southwest corner of northern Ontario. All of the holes were drilled within the 600 hectare mineralized core of the Richardson caldera.
These holes were variously designed to:
1) assess the near-surface gold resource potential of the newly discovered South Zone and Cap Zone; and
2) convert inferred resources to indicated resources in the main ODM17 Zone through infill drilling.
All significant drill results and a location map with section lines for reference are posted on the Rainy River website www.rainyriverresources.com. The summary tables at the end of the release are to be read in conjunction with the text, below.
South and CAP Zone - Drilling
Five holes, Nos. 386, 388, 389, 392 and 394, were collared at the Cap Zone and the newly discovered South Zone (see September 8, 2009 news release) to build near-surface gold resources in this area. The best intersection was in Hole 394 which intersected 10.5 metres grading 8.87 g/t gold, including 5.0 metres grading 17.92 g/t gold. The South Zone lies immediately south of the conceptual open pit as contemplated in SRK's July 2009 resource study. All holes intersected the South/CAP horizon and contained intervals of greater than 0.40 g/t gold that could potentially add to the resource in this area.
ODM17 Zone - Infill Drilling
Holes 386, 388, 389, 392 and 394 that were collared in the Cap and South area served a dual purpose in not only defining gold mineralization in these zones but also drilling the down dip extensions of the ODM17 Zone. Mineralization encountered includes strong intervals of 31.5 metres grading 1.42 g/t gold in Hole 386, including 3.0 metres grading 4.55 g/t gold, 40.5 metres grading 2.31 g/t gold in Hole 389 and 36.0 metres grading 1.50 g/t gold in Hole 392, demonstrating the thickness and continuity of the ODM17 Zone.
Holes 385, 387 and 391 were drilled at the eastern end of the ODM17 Zone to better define its limits. Hole 391 extended the top of the zone 50 metres northeastward. The hole returned 39 metres grading 0.75 g/t gold immediately beneath the overburden cover, potentially adding to the gold resources in the conceptual pit.
Two holes, 379 and 390, were drilled to explore for possible up-dip and lateral extensions of a new gold zone, defined by Hole 329 which returned 29.2 metres grading 2.35 g/t gold. The holes intersected sporadic low grade gold mineralization, however, the zone remains open to the east and down plunge.
New Developments
A fifth diamond drill rig has recently been added to accelerate testing of exploration targets as defined by gold-in- bedrock geochemical anomalies. A reverse circulation (RC) drilling program is scheduled to begin in mid-November to further define known geochemical anomalies peripheral to the existing resource boundary. In addition, baseline studies are continuing with humidity cell tests for waste characterization and the installation of piezometers for ground water testing. The Company has entered into a contract with SGS Lakefield to conduct extensive metallurgical testwork to further define the process flow sheet.
Commentary
"We continue to be very excited about the potential conversion of inferred resources to indicated resources and the new potential that the South/CAP zone is giving the project," commented Raymond Threlkeld, President and CEO. "We are stepping up the exploration of untested bedrock geochem anomalies previously defined by RC drilling and will augment our exploration by further definition of the bedrock geochem anomalies with the commencement of an RC drilling program."

About Rainy River Resources Ltd.
Rainy River Resources is a Canadian precious metals exploration company whose key asset is the Rainy River gold project. With CAN$24 million in its treasury, the Company is well funded to conduct a dual-focused drilling program consisting of: 1) definition diamond drilling of the main gold resources in preparation for scoping and pre-feasibility studies, and 2) selective diamond drill testing of high-priority gold targets defined primarily by RC drilling within the large gold system centered in Richardson Township. The Company's property is extremely well located in the southwestern corner of northern Ontario near the U.S. border. It is accessed by a network of roads and is close to hydro-electric infrastructure. The Rainy River district has a skilled labour force and is one of the lowest-cost areas for mineral exploration and development. Ontario has low political risk and, according to the annual Fraser Institute global survey of the mining industry, has consistently ranked as one of the top jurisdictions embracing mineral development.
