Extension of the uranium zone on the Ashini property
Rimouski, July
10, 2007 - The latest trenching and ground radiometric survey work carried out
at the Ashini uranium property on Quebec's North Shore has so far indicated a
radioactive zone about half a kilometre long and 350 metres wide. The
radioactivity is produced by outcrops of a complex system of discontinuous and
irregular pegmatitic veins. The radiometric survey is now being extended to
define the limits of the radioactive zone, and several samples are currently
being analyzed to determine the uranium content of these outcrops.
The
radioactive zone is characterized by a number of outcrops with counts per
second (cps) above 1,000—even reaching 10,000 cps—in pegmatite
veins throughout the zone. Nine excavator trenches have exposed semi-continuous
radioactivity over lengths of 30 to 60 metres, open at the ends.
In addition,
extension of the 2006
trenches has enabled sampling of three new pegmatite
veins with radioactivities in excess of 10,000 cps. By way of example, a sample
taken last year with 0.22% uranium had a radioactivity of 8,000 cps.
The Ashini
property is 100% owned by Ressources Appalaches; it is located near the town of
Godbout on the Quebec North
Shore. The radiometric
surveys were conducted with an Exploranium GR310 spectrometer.
